The wine
High in the hills of the Valdarno, Podere Il Carnasciale tends the world's only plantings of Caberlot, a natural crossing of Cabernet Franc and Merlot found by chance and propagated from a single vine. This bottling, the estate's second wine, offers an early window into one of Tuscany's most singular and tiny productions.
Vivid purple-ruby. The bouquet is aromatic and lifted: blueberry, violet, crushed herbs and a peppery snap of Cabernet Franc. On the palate it is supple and bright, with red and blue fruit, fine acidity and silky tannins that close around a graphite core. Medium-bodied and harmonious, it finishes on dark berry and a savoury, leafy lift.
