The wine
Soldera is a legend apart, the Case Basse estate whose late founder pursued Sangiovese with near-fanatical purity at Montalcino. Now bottled as Toscana IGT, the wine remains one of Italy's most coveted and uncompromising reds. The 2019 vintage offers the estate's hallmark: ethereal aromatics over astonishing structural reserve.
Luminous, pale-edged ruby, it unfurls slowly into wild cherry, redcurrant, dried rose, blood orange and a deep base of forest floor and exotic spice. The palate is silken yet immensely structured, tannins powdery and ripe, acidity electric. Tea leaf, mineral and red fruit stretch across a finish of haunting, near-endless length and clarity.
