The wine
Clos de Bèze ranks among the very greatest grand crus of Gevrey, a wine of sovereign power, and Drouhin-Laroze holds a substantial slice of this hallowed ground. Expect Pinot Noir of muscle and majesty, broad-shouldered yet aromatic. The 2022 vintage is deep, structured and built for the long haul, regal from the first sniff.
Dense ruby-purple, exhaling black cherry, cassis, liquorice and a smoky note of charred oak and game. The palate is powerful and tightly knit, dark-fruited and spiced, with firm, grainy tannins and a deep savoury core. Violet, espresso and mineral iron build toward a vast, brooding finish. A wine of monumental scale, demanding patience.
Why we chose it
“Gevrey royalty: brooding power, dark fruit, and grand cru gravity throughout.”
