The wine
Cheval Blanc stands apart on Saint-Émilion's gravel plateau, its Cabernet Franc-led blend unlike anything else on the right bank. The 2016 is a vintage of legend across Bordeaux, and here it yields a wine of astonishing poise: power and silk held in perfect suspension. A Premier Grand Cru Classé A at its peak form.
Deep, glowing crimson, it opens on blackcurrant, black cherry, violet and the estate's signature lift of crushed flowers and graphite. The palate is seamless and profound, dark fruit wrapped in cashmere tannin, with tobacco, cedar and a mineral coolness running through. Acidity gives lift, the finish unspooling for a minute or more.
