The wine
Haut-Brion, the lone first growth of the Graves, makes Bordeaux of a smoky, almost ethereal register all its own. From the warm gravels of Pessac-Léognan, its blend turns power into perfume. The 2015, an exceptional vintage on the Left Bank, is Haut-Brion at full stretch: profound, complex, and unhurried.
Deep garnet-ruby. The nose is layered and beguiling: black cherry, cassis, and plum, then the house's hallmark smoke, warm earth, tobacco, and crushed gravel. The palate is silky yet immensely deep, polished tannins draped over dark fruit, acidity keeping it lifted and precise. Oak is invisible. The finish is extraordinary, smoky and mineral, fading on embers and cassis.
Why we chose it
“The smoke and warmth of the Graves, first growth made flesh.”
