The wine
Château l'Évangile, the Pomerol jewel on the Pétrus side of the plateau, makes Merlot of plush power and aristocratic poise. The superb 2016 vintage, marrying ripeness to freshness, delivers a wine of velvet and depth from this small, storied estate.
Deep, saturated garnet. The bouquet is opulent and layered: black cherry, plum, violet, truffle, mocha, and a warm graphite seam. The palate is rich and silken, dark fruit pillowed on ripe, fine-grained tannin and a lifted, mineral acidity. The finish is long, savoury, and seductive, deepening with every minute in the glass.
