The wine
Colgin sits among Napa's most exalted names, its hillside fruit and meticulous farming yielding cult Cabernet-based blends in tiny quantity. The 2016, from a near-flawless vintage, is the estate at its most complete: powerful yet refined, a proprietary blend of depth, polish and effortless authority.
Deep, brooding purple, it surges with cassis, blackberry, dark cherry and crème de cassis over espresso, cedar and violet. The palate is plush and seamless, opulent fruit framed by ripe, cashmere tannins and a savoury graphite undertow. For all its power it stays poised, acidity keeping it fresh. The finish is long, layered and faintly mineral.
