The wine
From Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Drouhin-Laroze farms an enviable holding in Bonnes-Mares, the grand cru that straddles Chambolle and Morey. Pinot Noir here draws on both the terroir's red and white soils. The ripe, harmonious 2022 vintage gives the wine power and perfume in near-perfect measure.
Deep, vivid ruby, it offers black cherry, raspberry and crushed violet over a base of rose, sweet spice and damp earth. The palate marries Bonnes-Mares' two faces: silken Chambolle florals above a firm, structured core. Tannins are fine and chalky, the fruit pure and lifted. Liquorice, mineral and dark berry carry a long, perfumed, gracefully powerful finish.
Why we chose it
“The grand cru that bridges Chambolle's lace and Morey's muscle, both in one glass.”
