La Gravette de Certan, Pomerol 2017

Second wine to the legendary Vieux Château Certan, La Gravette draws on Pomerol's gravel-and-clay heart for a Merlot of plush generosity and quiet pedigree. The 2017 is open-knit and welcoming, the estate's signature perfume present without the cellaring demands of its elder. Pomerol made approachable, never made simple.

Deep crimson, the nose offers plum, blackberry and a waft of violet over cocoa and warm earth. The palate is round and supple, fruit cushioned on velvety tannin, with a savoury truffle note emerging at the edges. Balanced acidity keeps it fresh, and the finish closes on dark chocolate and sweet spice.
