The wine
Farmed biodynamically since long before it was fashionable, the Amoreau family's Le Puy works the high ground of the Côtes de Francs without chemicals, additives or new oak. Cuvée Émilien is the house standard-bearer, a Right Bank red of purity and life. The 2021 vintage is cool, fresh and remarkably energetic.
Translucent ruby in the glass, lifting redcurrant, wild strawberry and crushed violet over a leafy, herbal undertone. The palate is bright and gently chalky, red-fruited and pure, with sappy acidity and powdery tannins that feel grown rather than made. Sweet spice and a hint of orange zest trail a finish that stays clean, lifted and unmistakably alive.
