The wine
Léoville Las Cases sits hard against Latour, a super-second whose Grand Vin blurs the line with first growth. From the cool gravels of Saint-Julien, its Cabernet-led blend is famously austere in youth and majestic with age. The 2019, a great year, is classicism distilled, monumental and patient in equal measure.
Inky, near-opaque ruby. Cassis, blackberry, and violet open, deepening into graphite, cedar, pencil shavings, and dark earth. The palate is dense and tightly knit, a wall of fine tannin framing concentrated black fruit, with vivid acidity and gravelly minerality beneath. Oak is absorbed into the whole. The finish is immense, slow, and resolutely mineral.
Why we chose it
“Saint-Julien at its most aristocratic. Locked tight, built for decades.”
