Montevertine 2021

Montevertine, the Radda estate that famously left the Chianti Classico system to stand on its name alone, makes traditional Sangiovese of rare purity. Grown high in the Radda hills and aged in large old oak, the 2021 is classic Montevertine: ethereal, savoury and built around acid rather than power.

Luminous medium ruby, it lifts from the glass with red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose and orange peel. A savoury layer of leather, tea leaf and forest floor follows. The palate is fine-boned and transparent, tannins powdery, acidity vivid and mouth-watering. A long, mineral, faintly bitter-almond finish underlines its old-school grace.
