The wine
Petrus needs no introduction: the most fabled estate of the Right Bank, a near-monopole of Merlot on Pomerol's unique blue clay. There is no grander expression of the grape on earth. The rich, ripe 2018 vintage gave Petrus profound concentration matched by silk, a wine of monumental yet velvet authority.
Deep, saturated ruby, it unfolds slowly into black cherry, plum, fig and violet over truffle, mocha, iron and a smoky mineral depth. The palate is vast and seamless, Merlot's flesh wrapped around immense yet impossibly fine tannin, the clay lending gravity and grip. Dark fruit, cocoa and earth echo through a finish of awe-inducing length.
