The wine
Pichon Baron stands across the road from Latour, and in great years its second-growth wine speaks with first-growth conviction. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the Pauillac gravel, Merlot rounding the frame. The structured, generous 2015 plays directly to the estate's strength: power dressed in dark, brooding elegance.
Nnear-opaque ruby, the nose is deep and classically Pauillac: blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, lead pencil and a curl of cigar-box smoke. The palate is broad-shouldered and muscular, tannins dense yet polished, fruit black and concentrated. Graphite, dark chocolate and tobacco resonate through a powerful, slow-fading, gravel-edged finish.
Why we chose it
“Pauillac muscle in a velvet glove: brooding now, magnificent later.”
