The wine
Rising young vigneron Pierre Girardin has become one of the Cote de Beaune's most talked-about names, and his Chassagne premier cru Les Vignes Blanches shows why. Chardonnay from a single well-sited climat, raised with low sulphur and a deft hand. The sunny 2023 brings ripeness held in clean, energetic check.
Bright gold-green, it opens on white peach, lemon curd, acacia and toasted hazelnut, with the gunflint reduction that marks the cellar's signature. The palate is broad yet driven, generous fruit framed by saline acidity and a chalky, oyster-shell minerality. Crushed nut and citrus pith trail through a tense, mouth-watering, finely cut finish.
Why we chose it
“A young star's Chassagne: orchard generosity strung tight on a saline wire.”
