The wine
Pierre Girardin has quickly become one of Burgundy's most talked-about young growers, prized for whites of clarity and drive. Les Chênes sits in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, a village synonymous with serious Chardonnay. The 2023 marries the vintage's freshness to the appellation's richness with real finesse.
Bright straw-gold. The nose is layered and inviting: ripe pear, white peach, lemon zest, acacia and a toasty, hazelnut-tinged minerality. The palate is mid-weight and harmonious, orchard fruit and citrus carried by bright acidity over a saline, stony base. Discreet oak lends butter and brioche without heaviness. The finish is long, fresh and finely mineral, a model of poised village Chassagne.
Why we chose it
“Classic Chassagne in a fresh young hand: richness and tension in equal measure.”
