The wine
Young Pierre Girardin has risen swiftly through the Côte d'Or, drawing acclaim for precise, energetic whites under his own label. Corton-Charlemagne is his grandest canvas: Chardonnay from the storied grand cru hill above Aloxe, in a ripe and generous 2022 vintage that still keeps its line and cut.
Pale gold with green glints. The nose is broad yet chiselled: white peach, lemon curd, hazelnut, white flowers and a flinty, struck-match minerality. The palate is powerful and tightly wound, citrus and orchard fruit driven by saline acidity over a stony, almost chalky frame. Subtle oak adds toast and almond without obscuring the fruit. The finish is long, mineral and commanding.
Why we chose it
“Grand cru power meets young-vigneron precision: white Burgundy with a granite spine.”
