The wine
Meursault answers Burgundy's question of richness, and Les Grands Charrons is among its finest village lieux-dits, sitting high toward Puligny. Pierre Girardin works it with a deft, low-intervention hand. The 2023 balances Meursault's famous opulence with a cool, saline cut, generous without ever tipping into excess.
Bright gold-green, the nose lifts on white peach, hazelnut, lemon curd and a waft of toasted oatmeal. The palate is broad and creamy, orchard fruit and brioche carried on a stony, almost saline mineral spine. Well-judged oak adds nutty warmth without dominating. Acidity threads through to a long, flinty, buttered finish.
Why we chose it
“Meursault's butter and stone in equal measure. Generosity with a backbone.”
