The wine
On a reclaimed hacienda at the southern edge of Sonoma, Scribe farms Carneros Pinot with a low-intervention hand and a Californian sense of freedom. Cool bay fog and the long ripening of the 2021 season give this a wine of brightness over weight, energetic and unfussy, more Old World tension than New World gloss.
Luminous ruby in the glass, scented with cranberry, pomegranate and a dusting of dried thyme. The palate is light-footed and juicy, red cherry and blood orange carried on fine, fresh acidity, with a whisper of forest floor underneath. Gentle, dusty tannins and a saline lift close a finish that stays crisp and inviting. Pure drinking pleasure.
Why we chose it
“Fog-cooled Carneros Pinot: cranberry brightness with a saline, savoury wink.”
