The wine
Sloan is Rutherford grandeur in its purest, most coveted form, a hillside estate whose Cabernet-led blend ranks among Napa's true cult bottlings. The 2017 is dense and statuesque, weathering a challenging year to deliver concentration and class in equal measure. A wine of immense scale, built to reward the patient.
Opaque purple-black, it opens on cassis, black cherry, blackberry and the Rutherford signature of dusty cocoa and warm earth. The palate is massive yet polished, layers of dark fruit set on broad, ripe tannin, with espresso, dark chocolate and graphite running deep. Bright acidity lends focus, and the finish is enormous, savoury and slow to fade.
