The wine
Castell'in Villa, the proudly traditional estate near Castelnuovo Berardenga, makes Chianti Classico that ages with grace and resists fashion. This Riserva, pure Sangiovese from the southern reaches of the zone, wears the warm 2017 vintage with a savoury, old-school austerity.
Garnet with an evolving brick rim. The nose is classic and earthy: sour cherry, dried rose, leather, tobacco leaf, and a balsamic herbal note. The palate is firm and sinewy, tart red fruit framed by Sangiovese's grippy tannin and bright acidity. Savoury, dusty, and long, with a faintly bitter, mineral finish.
