The wine
Château de Tracy has overlooked the Loire at Pouilly-sur-Loire for centuries, one of the appellation's most historic estates. 101 Rangs is a special parcel selection of Sauvignon Blanc, named for its rows of vines, that elevates Pouilly-Fumé beyond the everyday. The 2019 is taut, smoky and built with unusual depth.
Pale gold with green tints. The nose is intense and flinty: gooseberry, white peach, citrus, blackcurrant leaf and the characteristic gunflint smoke of the appellation's silex soils. The palate is concentrated and precise, ripe citrus and orchard fruit framed by vivid acidity and a saline, mineral grip. There is real texture here, more vinous than zesty. The finish is long, smoky and stony.
