The wine
A wine of almost mythical scarcity, Il Caberlot is made from a single grape variety found nowhere else, a natural crossing of Cabernet Franc and Merlot cultivated only at Podere Il Carnasciale in the Tuscan hills. Vigna Perilli is its purest expression, bottled in tiny quantity. The 2016 vintage is a wine of effortless balance.
Dense ruby-violet in the glass, exhaling blackberry, sweet tobacco, graphite and a floral hint of iris. The palate is silky yet deeply structured, dark berry and plum carried on fine-grained tannins, with cedar, dried herb and a savoury mineral thread. Cocoa and warm spice build toward a finish of remarkable persistence and grace. Singular, and unforgettable.
