The wine
Caberlot is a genetic curiosity, a natural Cabernet-Merlot crossing grown nowhere on earth but Podere Il Carnasciale in Tuscany's Val d'Arno. The Sommelleria bottling is its measured second voice. Rare, idiosyncratic, and quietly cult, the 2019 turns an oddity of the vine into something genuinely compelling.
Dense ruby-purple. Black cherry, ripe plum, and cassis lead, with violet, sweet spice, cedar, and a herbal Tuscan lift behind. The palate is smooth and supple, ripe rounded tannins cradling dark fruit, acidity keeping the richness honest. Oak is well-folded into the wine. It closes long and warming on dark berries, liquorice, and a dusty earthen note.
