The wine
Le Clarence is the second wine of Château Haut-Brion, drawn from the gravel terroir of Pessac-Léognan that has defined Bordeaux for centuries. The ripe, structured 2018 vintage gives a Merlot-led blend of charm and depth, the house signature in an approachable register.
Deep ruby, dense to the rim. The bouquet is layered and smoky: blackcurrant, plum, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and the estate's tell-tale warm-earth note. The palate is supple and well-built, dark fruit carried on polished, ripe tannin and a fresh, mineral acidity. Long, savoury, and gently smoky on the close.
Why we chose it
“Haut-Brion's gravel signature at the second-wine price. Smoke, earth, and silk.”
