Boyer-Martenot

Boyer-Martenot was founded in the late nineteenth century by Lucille Boyer, who was widowed at 25 and ran the property herself, building it to roughly 17 hectares by the end of her life. After the Second World War her son André Boyer took over and in 1945 married Juliette Devèze of neighboring Puligny-Montrachet, bringing that village's vines into the family. Their son Yves later married Marie-Cécile Martenot, daughter of a Meursault winegrowing family, and the merger of the two names gave the domaine its present title. Their son Vincent Boyer took full charge of the estate in 2002 and represents the fourth generation to run it.

The domaine is based in the village of Meursault and farms around 10 hectares of Chardonnay across four villages of the Côte de Beaune: Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, and Pommard. Between 1997 and 2007 the family added further parcels, including Meursault "Les Tillets" and the Meursault Premier Cru "Les Perrières," to a portfolio that already included premier cru holdings in "Le Cailleret" in Puligny-Montrachet and "Charmes" and "Genevrières" in Meursault.

Boyer-Martenot does not claim organic certification, but the estate is worked along traditional lines: regular soil cultivation, controlled yields, green harvesting to thin the crop, and treatments applied only when the vintage calls for them. Grapes are picked by hand.

In the cellar, fermentation relies on the vineyards' own indigenous yeasts. The wines are then raised in oak barrels, roughly one third of them new, for about twelve months before bottling. The house is known chiefly for its whites, and Vincent Boyer's stated aim is balance and freshness in the glass, wines that speak plainly of Meursault and its neighboring villages rather than of the cellar.

i.WINE currently carries three wines from Boyer-Martenot: the Puligny-Montrachet "Les Reuchaux" 2023, the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Le Cailleret" 2022, and the Meursault-Genevrières 1er Cru 2022.
