The wine
Fossati straddles La Morra and Barolo, a cru of sandy soils giving Nebbiolo of finesse and aromatic charm. In Cesare Bussolo's traditional hands, the wine favours perfume and lift over sheer mass. The 2020 is fragrant and finely cut, a Barolo of elegance that nonetheless carries the spine to age gracefully.
Luminous garnet, paling at the edge. Red cherry, dried strawberry, and violet open, deepening into tar, dried herbs, leather, and a mineral undertone. The palate is elegant and tightly woven, fine-grained tannins gripping red fruit, vivid acidity carrying real length. Oak is restrained. The finish is long and perfumed, lingering on sour cherry, rose petal, and warm earth.
