The wine
Working from the Langhe heartland, Cesare Bussolo gives Barbera the seriousness usually reserved for Nebbiolo. Roscaleto is a Superiore bottling from the warm 2017 vintage, old-vine Barbera d'Alba with the structure and patience of a wine made to be cellared rather than rushed.
Dense violet-ruby. The nose is generous and dark: ripe black cherry, blackberry, sweet baking spice and a violet top note over a hint of cocoa. The palate is round and juicy, Barbera's signature bright acidity slicing through plush fruit and gentle oak spice. Tannins are soft but present. There is liquorice and dark plum on the finish, which lingers warm and supple.
Why we chose it
“Barbera taking itself seriously: juicy acidity, dark depth, Langhe pedigree.”
